Your health depends a lot upon the type of food you take and schedule in which you eat, your body is like a machine and so it requires a good fuel at a proper time.
Eating nothing or fasting may not make you slim, but eating thrice a day will for sure get you a slim trim figure. What actually matters is eating healthy food, in a proper amount, with a good mind and at appropriate time. All of us need some extra botheration, help and motivation on our diet, so that we can mend it in the right way. One should start maintaining a diet diary, where everything you ate and how it felt should be recorded so that you can yourself evaluate your foods.

This will tell you about your temptations, your feelings while eating and the various impacts of them on your body and health. You will be yourself prompted to stop munching snacks and fatty foods.
Do not be too strict with your diets:
More important fact is that, a diet that promotes eating less portion of food or avoids you from eating too many things may not be a great solution in a long term view. It is always preferable to take into account a diet that takes care of your likes and dislikes and also includes a good combination of food which is much easier to maintain and provides you with all the nutrients and necessary calories.
Dieting tips are always temporary instead we should plan and opt for such strategies, which could be our habit in the long run. It took you so many years to put on those extra loads of weight and so, you won’t be able to shed it off overnight.
Keep some cut raw vegetables in the refrigerator. Eat a few pieces half an hour before you sit down to lunch or dinner to cut your appetite. Choosing diet tips that suits you is the important factor when you want to lose weight.
Don’t eat more than four meals per day and also don’t take snacks in between meals. Avoid eating after 7 pm and eating while watching T.V or when you are upset. Try not to store the wrong foodstuffs in the house. Don’t eat in huge amounts and in a hurry, be active always. Decrease the consumption of fat, sugar and starches and Increase the consumption of vegetables, fish and cheese. Drink plenty of water even sometimes-warm water and green tea is very good. Have a plenty of grapefruit. Avoid the use of salt and season your food with chives, herbs, mushrooms, peppers, vinegar, tomatoes and lemon juice. Avoid coffee and tea. Snack Ideas for Kids That Won't Wreck Mom's Weight Loss Plans

If you are a mom at home on a diet, you will probably related to the following. Many moms who are trying to lose weight, are able to keep to a healthy eating plan through most circumstances except two. It all starts to go astray when the kids come home from school, or when they are preparing school lunches.
It's no surprise really. Kids love snacks we buy from the supermarket, and parents love them because they are quick and easy to throw into the lunchbox or for kids to grab from the shelves in the pantry. Small bags of chips, tasty bite size crackers, sodas and the like. No problem. Except when it comes to mom's weight loss program. Mom loves them too!

These products are high in fat, high in energy and high in refined sugars. And after one, two or three nibbles it is possible to wrack up an unwanted 500 calories. This single act will probably stall your weight loss or even worse!
To stop your kids from sabotaging your weight loss efforts, here are 20 snack ideas for kids that will do far less damage to your weight loss program if mom nibbles (just a little).
1. Chop up ½ tinned pear or other fruit in natural juice and set in 200mls of low calorie jelly. Make up into individual disposable plastic containers with lids.
2. Cut up crisp vegetable sticks with dipping sauce - ranch, peanut (satay), sweet chili or tomato.
3. Cut celery sticks 6-8 cm, fill with cottage cheese and top with sultanas or chopped nuts.
4. Combine a mixture of low fat hard cheese cubes, nuts and dried fruits in plastic wrap or a lunch bag.
5. Roll up thin slices of carrot and celery with grated cheese in a slice of cold meat. Secure with toothpick. Slice the carrot and celery with a vegetable peeler for really thin slices.
6. Cut oranges into quarters and freeze on trays. Put into plastic bags for a fruity ice block.
7. Meatball surprise. Next time you are making meatloaf, double the quantity and make a batch of meatballs. These are great in lunchboxes cold. Add a slice of pineapple with a toothpick to each meatball. Add dipping tomato sauce if required.
8. Mini quiches….make a batch of crust-less quiche and cook in muffin tray. Each 'muffin' will be a wonderful healthy snack for kids.
9. Chilled fruit surprise - slice a combination of strawberries, bananas, kiwi fruit, watermelon, grapes or in season fruit. Place in small resealable plastic container. Top with apple juice; do not overfill. Seal, freeze. When packed in lunchbox, will keep sandwiches cool and prove a refreshing treat on a hot day.
10. Rice cakes spread with mashed avocado, mashed banana and cinnamon, or try mashed avocado, sliced tomato and sprouts.
11. Chopped hard-boiled egg served with low fat mayo, salt, pepper on a crisp bread.
12. Leaf wrappers: wrap a cheese finger, celery stick and carrot stick in a lettuce leaf. Wrap in foil and place in lunchbox. Contents will be kept moist.
13. Yoghurt tub.
14. Creamy dates: slice dates lengthways, remove stone. Fill with Philadelphia cream cheese (low fat).
15. Quick sausage rolls: wrap a skinned (good quality) sausage in several sheets of filo pastry. Brush pastry with beat egg to glaze. Cut into desired lengths. Bake in moderately hot oven for 15-20 minutes. Rolls can be frozen.
16. After school hot snack attack: Spread a round of pita bread with tomato paste and herbs. Top with tomato, ham, mortadella, add onion, sliced mushrooms or pineapple. Sprinkle grated low fat hard cheese over pita bread. Grill to make a tasty pizza. If no pita bread is available, substitute a crisp bread.
17. Fruity kebabs: place bite size pieces of fruit in season on kebab skewers.
18. Pop top sandwich tuna tin, crisp bread, sachet of mayonnaise. Kids can put their snack together at school so that it doesn't go soggy.
Remember fresh is best both for yourself and your children. By substituting these ideas for some of the prepackaged snack food and cookies your kids eat you will be doing both them and yourself a favor.

The Truth About Fat

Fat has had a lot of bad press and for many people, just a mention of the word can evoke misery. You can try to lose it, try to hide it, try to avoid it, but your body still needs it! Did you know that fat helps to insulate our nerve cells, keeps us warm, balances our hormones, keeps skin and arteries supple, lubricates joints and is a component in every cell?
The key issue here is recognizing which type of fat your body needs, how much your body requires and which type is your enemy. Armed with the right information, you can focus on getting more of the good fats and less of the bad fats into your daily diet.
There are two types of fat to be aware of. Saturated fats - let's call them "the enemy" and unsaturated fats - "the good guys"! It is easy to tell the difference because saturated fats are hard at room temperature. Saturated fats are not essential to your health. They come from animals and are found in meat, eggs and cheese. They are harder to digest and full of cholesterol.

Unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature and have been divided into two groups. Monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, and polyunsaturated fats such as sunflower oil. Polyunsaturated fats are split into Omega 3 fatty acids and Omega 6 fatty acids. Monounsaturated fat (Omega 9) although not essential, is not harmful in moderation - a good quality (extra virgin first cold pressed) olive oil is a healthier alternative to the usual vegetable oil. Good sources of Omega 6: safflower oil, sunflower oil, evening primrose oil, walnut oil, pumpkin oil, sesame oil. Good sources of Omega 3 are mackerel, herring, salmon, pilchards, sardines, tuna and flax seed oil. Here are some important facts about fat in our diet.

1. Fat is the 'energy reserve' of animals, plants and humans.

2. The ideal body-fat ratio should be approximately 19-26% of a woman's body weight, and 12-18% of a man's body weight.
3. There are two different types of body fat - brown and yellow. Brown fat is situated inside the body and is 'active', containing mitochondria that produce heat (thermogenesis) and as a result burn energy. Yellow fat is found nearer the surface, is less active and more likely to accumulate. Women tend to have a higher ratio of yellow fat than men.
4. Women need higher levels of fat because it is essential for reproduction and so the body stores it 'just in case'.
5. An average healthy intake of good fats in the diet should be approximately 30-40 grams a day. The fat content of diets in affluent populations can be nearly four times this amount!
6. Most foods containing fat combine saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat in varying quantities. For instance, butter's fat content is almost 100%, of which 60% is saturated, 30% monounsaturated and 10% polyunsaturated, compared with sunflower seeds' fat content of 73%, of which just 12% is saturated and 21% monounsaturated and 67% is polyunsaturated.
7. Heat, light and oxygen destroy essential fatty acids, which is why it is best to keep oils in dark containers.
8. Essential fats must come from the diet because your body cannot produce them. The essential healthy fats are Omega 3 and Omega 6 (known as essential fatty acids).
9. Weight for weight, fat provides more than twice the amount of usable energy than carbohydrates or protein (you'll find 9 calories in every gram of fat).
10. Fat contributes to the palatability, texture and the smell of many foods, it also slows down the process of digestion providing an extended period of satiation after a meal.
When you know the good from the bad, fat is fabulous!

Six Ways to Eat More Healthfully

With so much 'diet advice' around today it is little wonder if you feel somewhat confused. Whether you are wanting to lose weight, maintain your weight or help your family eat more healthfully....these six, simple ideas will help you to eat more heathfully.

1. Stay away from the inside aisles. When you grocery shop, fill up your trolley from the aisles around the outside the perimeter of the store. This is where the fresh fruit, vegetables and fresh foods are kept.
2. Eat small amounts frequently. Don't allow yourself to get hungry. Keep your appetite in control with smaller meals and healthy snacks in between.
3. Keep close to nature. Fresh is best and generally much better for you than pre-packaged. For example, a fresh potato baked in its jacket is more healthy than pre-packaged "potato au gratin". 4. Experiment and use spices. Get used to cooking with a wide variety of spices. It's possible to get fabulous flavor with spices without adding high calorie fats and oils.
5. Read "fat free" labels carefully. Many "fat free" items contain additional carbohydrates in the form of sugar or fructose to compensate for reduced flavor and can do more to add to your weight than the "full strength" product.
6. Use low fat dairy products. For adults, much healthier as low fat dairy products have the nutrients without the extra fat.

When Diets Go Wrong

When we discover that we have put on a few extra pounds, the natural reaction is to cut back on the food we eat. We may skip lunch or eat only a tiny portion of our dinner in the hope that if we eat less we will put less fat into our body and give our body a chance to burn off excess fat. However this may not necessarily be true. Eating less may actually makes it harder to lose weight.

Remember that the human body developed millions of years ago, and for most of human history nobody cared about diet or low-calorie. The only low-calorie event in people's lives was starvation. Those who were able to cope with a severe lack of food were the ones who survived. Their bodies developed a mechanism to help them survive periods of reduced food intake and these survival skills have been passed on from one generation to the next.
Researchers compared daily calorie intake of overweight and thin people, and they found that overweight and thin people eat roughly the same number of calories. What makes overweight people different is the amount of fat that they eat. Thin people tend to eat less fat and more complex carbohydrates.
Losing weight does not magically happen overnight. A sensible and carefully planned weight loss program requires common sense and guidelines. There's a lot of misconception and misinformation floating around about the most effective methods to lose weight and keep it off and lots of desperate people are being duped and sold on questionable weight loss programs.
When you go to a bookstore, grocery store or drugstore you cannot avoid seeing magazines or newspapers advertisements promoting the latest weight loss product, pill or patch that will melt excess fat or get rid of excess weight quickly. Everyone seems to be looking for that "magic" weight loss pill, which does not exist. Every year Millions of Americans try to lose weight and spend billions of dollars on diet programs and products. Sometimes the diet program helps them lose some weight. Unfortunately these people also tend to regain whatever weight they lost.
A recent survey was carried to determine if any commercial diet program could be successful in the long run. Not a single program was able to claim long-term success. The diet industry has ballooned over the last decade and and con artists are now peddling new products and false claims and the FDA has now been forced to step in to protect consumers from fake and dangerous weight loss products.
The popular belief is that people gain weight or fat by eating too many calories. It is true that Calories are a factor, but they are not the sole cause of obesity in America today. Americans actually eat less calories each day than they did at the beginning of the century. If calories were the only reason to gain weight, most people in America would be thin. But we are not. Collectively, we are heavier than ever. This is partly due to our sedentary life style. Equally, as important is the fact that the fat content of the American diet has increased dramatically.
It is a proven fact that people who diet without exercising often get fatter with time. Although your weight may initially drop while dieting, such weight loss is mostly composed of water and muscle. When the weight returns, it comes back as fat. To avoid getting fatter over time, you must increase your body’s metabolic rate by exercising regularly.

How to Prevent Weight Gain After Quitting Smoking?

One of the drawbacks of quitting smoking is weight gain. Many people that I have spoken to in fact give this as a reason to continue smokong. Think for a minute and read the US Surgeon General's report on the many benefits of quitting smoking. The chances of getting heart attacks, strokes or cancers almost falls to baseline 10-15 years after quitting. Is this not reason enough to quit smoking today? Dealing with post-quitting weight gain is relatively more simple than putting one's own life at risk from these killer diseases. Here are some simple suggestions to deal with the weight gain that might follow quitting smoking.
1. Don't quit smoking during holiday periods. One is highly likely to eat more then. 2. Stay away from alcohol. Do not resort to alcohol as a solace. Alcoholic drinks have a lot of calories, so avoiding them will help you control your weight. In addition, drinking can weaken your willpower, especially if you are the kind of person who smokes when you drink. 3. Do not go hungry as a means to keep weight in check. Eat at least 3 healthy meals a day so you don't get hungry. For some people, eating smaller healthy meals more than 3 times a day works better. And eat more whole-grain foods, vegetables, salads and fresh fruits. They stay with you longer and help keep you from getting hungry. 4. Professional help is always at hand in almost every city around the world. Nutritionists, fitness instructors, and therapists can all help you control your weight when you quit smoking. 5. Ensure that regular physical activity is a part of your life. Walking is a great exercise that most people enjoy and can do. It may help to walk or exercise with a partner or group. 6. Weigh yourself at least once a week using the same weighing scale. Keep a pencil and paper near the scales, and write your weight down. That way the extra pounds won't "sneak up" on you. 7. Never forget to remind yourself every day of how much healthier you are after quitting smoking. Remember, looking good is much more important than how much you weigh. Smelling clean and smoke-free, having fresh breath, having fingers and teeth free of yellow tobacco stains, and feeling healthier all make you more attractive. 8. A big reason people gain weight is that they reach for food instead of a cigarette after they quit. When you have a craving for a cigarette or food, remember that cravings usually last only a few minutes. Do something else to occupy your time for those few minutes. 9. Instead of eating candy or other food to replace the cigarettes, try chewing on a drinking straw, toothpick, a pencil or coffee stirrer. 10. If you must have something sweet in your mouth, eat fruits or try sugar-free gum or candy. 11. Come up with something else to keep your hands busy so you don't use them to eat. For example, take up knitting, beading, doing crossword puzzles, sudoku or just anything else that can keep you busy till the urge passes off. 12. It is not uncommon for people to resort to psychological binges when under duress. Find other ways to deal with those times. Go for a walk, take the dogs for a walk, or even vacuum the floor or help in some household chores.
Remember quitting smoking is far better than gaining a few pounds after quitting. And weight gain is a far more easy issue to tackle than not deciding to quit smoking.

When Can a Sauna Burn Occur?

Saunas can be installed in a person’s home, but they are mostly found at health spas, hotels, fitness clubs, and resorts. They also come in several different types in which their differences are defined by how they are heated and not so much how they are made. A sauna that is heated using wood will most likely be designed different or of a different size than another wood heated sauna. Despite their differences, their benefits and their risks are the same.
One may find that a sauna is heated with a heater that is powered by electricity, gas, or wood. There are also saunas that are heated with rocks or through infrared energy. Infrared energy is created through ceramics or metal that uses infrared energy to produce the heat. There are even infrared lamp saunas that that produce the sauna heat through heat lamps. The lights from these lamps tend to be incandescent, which means the lights are colored. It is known that colored lights are good for various organs within the body. But although these different types of saunas are beneficial, caution must be taken because sauna burn can actually occur.
What is sauna burn?
Sauna burn is a burn that occurs to the skin while being inside of a sauna. It doesn’t have anything to do with being in the sauna too long. When a person is in a sauna too long, they will become dehydrated and can possibly pass out. The skin does not become burned in the process.
What causes sauna burn is not taking off pieces of jewelry such as necklaces, watches, and rings. Leaving glasses on can cause sauna burn and it is even considered safe to take out contact lenses to avoid the lenses adhering to the eye due to the heat. Dental plates should also be taken out. It is safe to say that anything that is artificial on the body should be removed to avoid any possibility of a burn.
Other precautions
Aside from taking off jewelry, glasses, and any other artificial artifacts on the body, sandals such as flip flops should be used. A plain pair tends to not have any type of metal or plastic pieces that can cause burn. The floor to the sauna tends to be hot and can burn the bottom of the feet. This is why some saunas have bowls of water available to place the feet in to avoid burning from occurring. However, wearing sandals has become a common practice and bowls of water are not seen quite as much.
The truth is that it is ideal to walk into the sauna with nothing on aside from a towel and a pair of kick off sandals. This allows the individual to enjoy the benefits of the sauna without risking burn. The only worries that should exist are possible respiratory issues that occur in some people and that too much time is not spent in the sauna that could lead to dehydration. No one should have to worry about being burned, so it is good to do a double check and even ask those around you if there is anything on your body that can cause a burn. It is amazing how used to certain pieces of jewelry that many people become and innocently forget that they have it on. In reality, it isn’t like in the movies when the mob boss is sitting in the sauna with his associates, sporting a huge gold chain around his neck. It is good to be realistic and make sure that all possibilities of injury are eliminated because, although some may say it is okay, it is better to be safe than sorry.

The Lemonade Diet

The power of a lemon. It's not very big, it's yellow, it is sour to the taste, but it could be the key to your successful weight loss program. The lemonade diet is one of many detox diets currently being promoted on the web. Why even Hollywood celebrities are using the lemonade diet to lose weight right before filming there latest picture or to get in shape for a walk on the red carpet. But what is a lemonade diet? is it healthy? and can it help you lose weight?
The lemonade diet also known as the detox diet is a fasting program you follow for a certain number of days usually 3-10 days. The goal of the program is to remove toxins that have accumulated in the body. These toxins drain the body of energy. The lemonade diet has been around for over a 100 years but has just recently come back into vogue. Many followers of the lemonade diet report losing 1-2 pounds a day during the first 3-10 days of the diet. Then you can expect to lose about 2-4 pounds a week.
As far as health is concerned the lemonade diet can be very restrictive so your body may not get all the nutrients it needs while on the lemonade diet I recommend using a complete one a day vitamin to make sure your getting all the nutrients your body needs when on a detox diet. And as always consult your doctor before you start the lemonade diet or any other diet.
As I mentioned earlier following a detox diet can result in a rapid loss of weight a lot of this is junk and toxins that have been building up in your body for years that left alone can cause your health to deteriorate. Some other benefits of the lemonade diet are increase in energy, clearer skin, breaking a sugar dependency many people say that going on a detox diet was like discovering the fountain of youth. If you have trouble sticking with a diet then recruit a few of your friends and co-workers and have them do the lemonade diet with you. There is strength in numbers.
The detox diet could be just the thing your looking for to help you shed those extra pounds but as with any diet be sure to get some exercise in to help condition your heart you don't have to work out for hours to get results.Take a walk, do some gardening, hit the gym, play with the kids, make love to your spouse just get active your heart will thank you for it.
So give the lemonade diet a shot. I hope the information here helps you improve the quality of your life. I have used the diet my self with great success losing 72 pounds. I am not going to tell you it was easy to do but it was worth it when I look in the mirror and see a new man looking back.

Dangers of Fad Dieting

It is said that millions of people are on a diet as we speak. The bad news is that most of them are following the latest fads in dieting, so there are many dangers of fad dieting. Eat less, eat healthier, and keep physically active is the best way to lose the weight and keep it off.
The below given some of the dangers occur during short term, long term and suffering with heart disease, and diabetes.
• Calorie is so restricted usually on a lot of short term fad dieting. A few of them if you are doing a fast or just a liquid diet, your gut does not have a chance to do that it heeds to do, so it could stop working properly. You may suffer with constipation; you will suffer with pain when you do start eating again the fad diet. Also all other kinds of gastric problems can happen, due to this you may be suffering with bad breath. If any other people stand beside you, they also feel somewhat due to bad breath. Fruits contain vitamins that can help in the oxidation process. You don't want free radicals in your system that could affect your cells, more particularly your red blood cells. Fruits are vital to every balanced diet. Eat them for snacks and breakfast rather than consuming tortilla chips, pork rinds, and peanuts, which can be very high in salt content and cholesterol.

Canned chicken soup cannot replace freshly prepared homemade chicken soup. Besides, the canned variants are high in salt. People suffering from high blood pressure should refrain from eating canned or preserved foods plainly because they are prepared unnaturally. You don't want the added ingredients they have there interfering with your blood pressure.
Lean meat is a good source of protein. But the better choices for meat will always be the white meat variants, such as poultry and fish. High blood pressure patients are advised to follow a diet that is moderately high in protein.
Vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals. However, people with high blood pressure are advised not to eat too much green leafy vegetables, as they are conducive to blood clotting. However, the fibers they contain are essential to the health so they should not be removed from your meals altogether. Other vegetables such as carrots, peas, potatoes, and radish have nutrients that are going to be very helpful as well.
The foods that have to be avoided at all times are smoked meats, cured meats, seasonings, salted snacks, picked foods, cheese and cheese spreads, fatty foods, butter, and sodas.
